The Boardman Township Police Department has a new canine officer, Jack, a 1-1/2-year-old Belgian Malinois from the country of Belgium. K9 Officer Angelo Pasquale and Jack (pictured) recently became certified as a Dual-Purpose Patrol Canine Team after completing training at Shallow Creek Kennels. They are a certified team through the North American Police Work Dog Association and through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. Within the coming days they will be starting to perform their normal patrol duties in Boardman Township. Jack is able to locate narcotics, specifically: methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine. In addition to narcotics detection, he is also capable of conducting building searches, area searches, track/apprehend individuals, and locate evidence recently discarded that possess human odor. The Boardman Police Department will add a second canine officer later this year to work with Ptl. Mike Manis. |
