“Liking” Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley has never been so important. Two generous donors have stepped up to help the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley in a special way. Lynn Wyant, Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley’s Director of Development explained “FaceBook users are invited to “Like” Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley’s FaceBook page at www.Facebook.com/RescueMissionMV to help the Mission in its time of need during our Summer Relief appeal. With a simple click to “Like” the Mission on Facebook, an anonymous donor and Stadium Auto Group are providing an incentive to the community to rally behind the Mission. Each has each agreed to make a donation of $2.05 (equivalent of one meal at the Mission) for each new “Like” until Sept. 20, 2012 with a cap of $1000 each donated to Summer Relief.”
The Like-a-Thon is part of the Mission’s “100K in 100 Days Summer Relief” effort to avoid a potential deficit at the end of the Mission’s fiscal year. Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley has been providing food, shelter, safety and a second chance in our Valley since 1893. However, the hard reality today is that Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley is experiencing a 30% increase in the number of people needing shelter leading to increased expenses. At the same time, the Mission has seen a reduction in giving and projects that if the upward trend for service continues with no corresponding increase in giving, the Mission is positioned for a serious financial hardship by the end of the fiscal year (Sept 30, 2012).
Individuals who wish to contribute to the Mission’s “Summer Relief” campaign my do so by sending a gift to Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley Summer Relief 2246 Glenwood Ave. Youngstown, Oh 44511. Donors may also drop off contributions 24 hours a day at the Resident facility located at 962 Martin Luther King Blvd., Youngstown, or during regular business hours at the Mission’s Distribution Center located at 2246 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown. Donations are also welcome on line at www.RescueMissionMV.org.
Others in the community are welcome to join Stadium Auto Group and the anonymous donor who are backing the Like-A-Thon by joining in on the sponsorship efforts and providing a financial incentive for each new like the Mission receives. The staring number of 811 “Likes” was determined on July 20, 2012. As of July 27th, the Mission had accumulated 240 new likes.
