  Boardman High School Hall Of Fame Announces Eleven 2018 Honorees  
  August 9, 2018 Edition  
     The Boardman Boosters will be inducting 11 new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame the weekend of Sept. 7-9.
      On Friday, Sept. 9, the inductees will be introduced during halftime of the Boardman Spartans home football game against the Polar Bears of Massillon Jackson. Saturday there will be an afternoon social get-together for the inductees and their families followed on Sunday by the formal banquet/induction ceremony held at The Lake Club.

      2018 Boardman HOF inductees include Tom Albani (2002), Cross Country/Track; Frank Ansevin (1993), Gymnastics; Monica (Cuevas) Williams (2003), Track; Michelle (Dorman) Badolato (1993), Soccer; John Greco (2003), Football; Janeen Masternick-Black (2003), Soccer; Terry O’Halloran, Contributor/Coach; Tyler O’Halloran (2003), Swimming; Jennifer Pancake (2003), Softball; Kevin Tuminello (2003), Football and Tom Zetts (2003), Football/Baseball.
      Tom Albani (2002) Cross Country/Track
      The early 2000’s at BHS featured distance runner Tom Albani in cross country for four years of state-level achievement.
      In cross country, Albani set the 5K school record as he made first-team All-Steel Valley Conference as both a junior and a senior, when he won Mahoning County and Suburban League championships and qualified for regional and state competition, while serving as the team captain. As a senior, he earned All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio as well.
      In track, Albani also qualified for regionals and state competition in indoor track as a junior and senior, and was named All- Mahoning County and All-SVC from 1998 to 2001 as a 1600 meter distance runner and 4 x 800 meter relay team member.
      After receiving his B.S. degree from John Carroll University in 2007, Albani went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Public Health from YSU in 2010. He has since earned recognition in the public health field and served as a member-at-large of the Ohio Public Health Association Governing Council from 2013-2016. He is currently working as a Research Analytics Specialist at The Ohio State University/Wexner Medical Center, where he is also pursuing a Doctorate in
      Epidemiology. He resides in Columbus with his wife, Michelle.
      Frank Ansevin (1993) Gymnastics
      Almost single-handedly maintaining the BHS boys gymnastics program prior to its eventual elimination from the sports program, Frank Ansevin finished a four-year letter winning career in 1993.
      His junior and senior years saw him win
      five AAU National Championships and two AAU All- American selections. He was named Outstanding Male Gymnast at the 1992 AAU Junior Olympics and was the 1993 USGF State Champion in five events and runner-up in two more.
      In addition, he was the 1993 OHSAA State Champion in the vault and runner-up in floor exercise, as well as national high school champion in still-rings and runner-up in floor exercise. He competed in the 1993 state gymnastics meet as a top-three finisher in all six events, as well as the all-around competition.
      Ansevin earned an athletic scholarship to Ohio State, where he lettered in gymnastics all four years and was an OSU Scholar Athlete, an Academic All Big-Ten selection and a member of three Big-Ten and the 1996 NCAA national champion team, the same year he took fourth in floor exercise at Big-Ten.
      After receiving a degree at OSU in 1998, Frank earned his physician’s assistant degree in 2001, and in 2007 graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Master’s Degree in PA. He’s currently a PA at Youngstown Orthopedic Associates. He and his wife, Kristen live in Boardman with their daughter, Gabriella, and son, Landon.
      Michelle (Dorman) Badolato (1993) Soccer
      Boardman’s first girl’s soccer coach, Harry May, singled out Michelle Dorman Badolato as one of the best players he ever coached in his eight years at the helm.
      A four-year letter winner and “Team Playmaker Award” recipient, Badolato led her team in scoring as a sophmore, junior and senior years, and capped-off her senior season with first team All-Steel Valley Conference, first team Greater Akron Soccer League, as well as first team Inter-County Girls Soccer League laurels. She landed on the All-State Team in each of those conferences.
      Following graduation, Badolato attended Bowling Green State University, where she played club soccer for three years, traveling with her team to Texas for the National Club Tournament.
      After receiving her degree from BGSU in 1999, she lived in England and France for six years, traveling Europe extensively with her husband, Tony. They currently reside in Indiana with
      their children, Christian and Lexi. Michelle works at their soccer club as an event planner and administrator.
      John Greco (2003) Football
      As one of a host of top offensive linemen in BHS history, John Greco built on his high school and collegiate success to become a professional in the National Football League.
      After capping off his Boardman career as a first team All-Steel Valley Conference and second team All-Regional selection, Greco was recruited to continue his football and academic endeavors at The University of Toledo. A two-time captain for the a Rockets, he earned the Norman
      Cohen Award as the team’s top freshman and went on to earn first team All-Mid-American Conference honors three times, including being named an All-American and Lombardi Award candidate.
      After college, Greco was a third-round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams. After three seasons, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns where he started for most of his six-year tenure. He is currently a member of the New York Giants.
      In 2014, Greco was inducted into the Varsity “T” Hall of Fame at The University of Toledo.
      He is active in several Cleveland and Youngstown charities, including the United Way and the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland and presently resides in Powell, Ohio with his wife, Jodi and two children, Giavanna and Angelo.
      Janeen Masternick-Black (2003) Soccer
      A gifted student-athlete, Janeen Masternick- Black graduated as a valedictorian of her class along with a four-year career of soccer awards and accomplishments. Each of those years saw her selected for All-Steel Valley Conference and All-District honors. Her senior year, Janeen made All-Ohio, SVC All- Academic Team, Channel 33 Student Athlete of the Week, Butler Wick/Manning Emerging Scholar Athlete
      of the Month, and the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Academic Excellence Award. As a member of the 2001 and 2002 SVC championship teams, she set records for most goals scored in one game (5) and career goals (100).
      After suffering a serious injury playing at
      Baldwin-Wallace as a freshman, Masternick-Black graduated from BWC summa cum laude in 2007. She continued her education at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, earning her honors degree in 2011. She later completed her residency through Case Western Reserve University at Metro Health in Cleveland. Currently employed as a physician with Mercy Health at the Howland Medical Center. She lives in Howland with her husband, Keith and two sons, Grant and Rocco.
      Jennifer Pancake (2003) Softball
      A key player on the 2001 Boardman High School state championship softball team under Head Coach Bill Amero, Jennifer Pancake pitched and batted extremely well during her four years as a Lady Spartan, earning four varsity letters. She was team captain as a junior and senior, and in 2003 she worked 145 innings on the mound, posting 118 strikeouts, giving up just eight walks and eight earned runs, while batting .393 with 23 RBIs and a .431 on-base percentage. Boardman’s 2003 softball squad team won Steel Valley Conference and sectional championships and was district runner-up. As a senior, Pancake was an All-Ohio, All-District and All-SVC first team selection.
      Pancake continued her softball career atWestminster College, earning first team All-Presidents Athletic Conference each of her four years there. He 69 career wins is still most in school history. She was named PAC Freshman of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Player of the Year for the Lady Titans, where she set several pitching and hitting records. She was team MVP three times and team captain her senior year. In 2016 she was inducted into the Westminster HOF.
      Pancake lives in Austintown and is employed by the Community Connections Association. She gives softball pitching and batting lessons in her spare time.
      Terry O’Halloran Contributor/Coach
      For 33 years, legendary Boardman High School head swim coach Terry O’Halloran has been synonymous with excellence and success.
      He helped to establish the Boardman swimming program in 1985 where he served as head coach until retiring at the end of the 2018 season.
      Graduating from North Hill High School
      (Pittsburgh) in 1969, O’Hallornan received his elementary education degree from Westminster College in 1973
      He served as coach of the Boardman Tennis and Swim Club swim team for 40 years, as well as six seasons with the YMCA Neptune Swim Team.
      O’Halloran compiled a 597-251-8 mark as head coach of Boardman swim teams that included eight American Athletic Conference titles, 88 state meet qualifiers, 77 Academic All-Americans and four individual state champions--- won three by his son Tyler (who went on to swim with the Texas Longhorns) and one Ryan Bailey (who went on to swim with the U.S. Naval Academy). Terry O’Halloran was voted Northeast Ohio District Coach of the Year three times, Northeast Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year six times, and capped off his career as the 2018 Ohio High School Division I Boys Coach of the Year.
      He resides in Boardman with his wife Jan, after raising three outstanding swimmers and BHS grads -- Ryan (wife Kim), Tyler (wife Kelly), and Conner (wife Jessica).
      Kevin Tuminello (2003) Football
      Kevin Tuminello was a true student-athlete in both high school and college. At Boardman HS, Tuminello was a three-year letterman and two-year National Honor Society member, He captained the Spartans football team as senior when he was a first team All-Steel Valley Conference pick, and All-Ohio Division I Special Mention honoree as an offensive lineman, and was his team’s Offensive Team MVP.
      Enrolling at Georgia Tech, Tuminello continued his academic and athletic prowess. An Academic All-Atlantic Athletic Conference selection for three years at center, he captained his team in 2007 and earned second team All-ACC and Academic All-District honors. He also won the Gator Bowl Scholar Athlete and Senior Academic Excellence Award that year.
      After earning his Construction Management degree in 2007, he signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints of the NFL.
      Since then he has worked for Turner Construction and is presently employed by Schindler Elevator Corp. as operations supervisor.
      He is currently engaged to be married to Danielle Mistovich, and is living in Boardman.
      Tyler O’Halloran (2003) Swimming
      One of Boardman High School’s best-evert male swimmers, Tyler O’Halloran dominated the competition during his prep career where he was a three-time state champion, twice in the 50-yard freestyle, and once in the 100-yard freestyler. During all four years of high school, he was named an All-American Student-Athlete.
      O’Halloran accepted an athletic scholarship to The University of Texas at Austin following high school graduation, and where he continued his highly successful swimming career
      He was selected as an NCAA All-American from 2003-2007, and was the Longhorn’s team captain during his junior and senior years.
      He competed at the 2004 Olympic Trials and the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand. He graduated as the UT school-record holder in the 200-yard freestyle relay. After receiving his degree in 2007, O’Halloran entered
      UT’s Law School, graduating in 2012.
      He is now an attorney at the Allensworth & Porter law firm in Austin, Texas where he resides with his wife, Kelly. They are expecting a newborn daughter late this summer.
      Monica (Cuevas) Williams (2003) Track
      Monica (Cuevas) Williams was a huge track star at BHS all four years she ran, culminating in two third-place finishes at the state championships her senior year. She capped off that senior season qualifying to compete in the Junior Nationals at Stanford University for the second consecutive year. At the Midwest Regionals, she represented Team Ohio in the 800-meter run, finishing sixth and was a key part of the 4 x 800 championship relay team. To top off that magical
      season, Williams was the SVC, District, and Regional champ in both events. She finished her career a five-time All-Ohioan, second in state history behind Laurie Gomez, including All-Ohio, Regional, District, and All-SVC honors going back to ninth grade when she led the team in scoring. She also attained Academic All- Ohio honors for three straight years.
      Cuevas-Williams attended Columbia University and ran track as a freshman until several injuries limited her participation. After receiving her B.S. in Sociology, she worked as a research assistant at MDRC, an education and social policy think tank, before moving to Wisconsin to pursue graduate studies in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin/Madison. After earning her M.S. degree, she put her career on hold to raise her family with her husband, Julio. They moved to Canfield a few years ago with their three children, Gloria (5), Israel (3), Amadeo (1), and are expecting their fourth child in December.
      Tom Zetts (2003) Football / Baseball
      In the long list of great BHS quarterbacks, Tom Zetts stands out as one of the best ever on a list that includes Mike Shasby, Don Hunsinger, Larry Tracy, Jack Hay, brothers John and Jeff Ryan, Lalo Berezo and Bernie Kosar.
      Add to that an All-State baseball player during his junior year and graduating first in his class with a 4.0 GPA, Zetts Hall of Fame status is undeniable.
      His four-year baseball career at BHS included playing on three Steel Valley Conference Championship teams, one District Championship squad and as a State Semi-Finalist.
      In football, Zetts earned second team, All-Ohio laurels as a senior and was honored by WYTV as the “Student-Athlete of the Year”. He set a school record for passing yards in a single game (364) that final year at BHS.
      Zetts moved on to Youngstown State University to earn his degree and play football. He also briefly played baseball for YSU and threw the javelin in track.
      As the Penguin quarterback, Zetts led the Penguins to two Gateway Conference championships and a national playoff run in 2006 (where YSU fell out of post season play against Appalachian State). At YSU he set eleven school records, including 47 consecutive games as a starter. He was a three-time Academic All-American and named YSU “Male Student-Athlete of the Year” as a senior.
      After playing one season in the Italian Football League, Zetts returned to BHS as a math teacher and coach in several sports. He was named 2017 “Teacher of the Year” and in addition, officiates NCAA - Div. II and Div. III football.
      He lives in Boardman with his wife, Brittany and daughter, Mariella
