to the Southern Park Mall shortly after 6:00 p.m. on the day after Christmas in response to a fight involving some 50 persons.
Mall security was reportedly “overwhelmed by the fight,” police said.
Police were at the mall within four minutes of getting the call and were unable to locate any groups of people fighting.
“Security eventually flagged us down and advised that all participants had left already,” Ptl. Joe Lamping said.
One person was reported injured during the fight, a 13-year-old girl, Tyleia Shaw, of Youngstown.
“Shaw had a bloody towel covering her left eye. Her injury consisted of a several-inch long cut above her left eye and slight swelling,” Ptl. Lamping said.
Shaw told police she was approached by a juvenile girl near Buffalo Wild Wings who struck her several times in the face.
“Shaw said that she was going to find the girl who hit her and beat her,” Officer Lamping said.
Mall security told local police once they responded to the fight, the crowd began to disperse.
Police were called back to the mall at 8:16 p.m. when mall security said the were several “small skirmishes” that they could not handle in the area of the food court.
Security requested police come to the mall and ‘clear’ the facility of juveniles. Police were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
On Tues., Dec. 29 at 5:56 p.m., two police officers went to the Southern Park Mall, after receiving a report of two groups of juveniles “giving security a hard time” by Bath and Body Works.
Police were requested to remove the juvenile and issue them trespassing warnings. |
