The public is invited to the Stambaugh District, Great Trail Council Scouting America 20th annual Celebration of Scouting breakfast fundraiser set for Tuesday, June 10 at The Lake Club.       YSU President Bill Johnson will be the keynote speaker.
Johnson’s career is marked by a diverse array of leadership roles across multiple sectors. His distinguished 26 year military career in the U.S. Air Force included commanding one of the largest communications units and serving as Director of the CIO Staff at U.S. Special Operations Command.
Johnson’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-find several successful information technology companies, driving substantial revenue growth and earning a design patent for an IT device.
His commitment to service extended to a 13-year tenure in Congress, where he authored and co-sponsored numerous impactful legislations, demonstrating his ability to work across partisan lines.
In addition to his professional achievements, Johnson is an author, having written “Raising Fathers,” a book addressing the importance of fatherhood and the social impacts of fatherless homes.
His leadership approach is characterized by collaboration, transparent communication, and strategic planning, emphasizing continuous improvement and collective accountability.
Youth speaker will be Eagle Scout Gordon Moore who joined Cub Scout Pack 9044 while in first grade. After achieving his Arrow of Light award, he crossed over to his Scouts BSA troop in fifth grade earning merit badges and progressing through the ranks.
Moore has served in the positions of Chaplain’s aide and Senior Patrol Leader of his troop and was elected to the Order of the Arrow national honor society. He participated in the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) program.
Moore built a chimney swift tower in Poland Township Park for his Eagle Scout project and became an Eagle Scout on April 17, 2025. In addition to Scouts BSA, Moore has been a member of the Poland High School cross country team, theater, MCCTC robotics team, and won a first-place award at the Skills USA state competition for creative building this year. Moore is graduating from Poland High School and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center’s Engineering and Robotics program where he received an MCCTC Foundation scholarship. He is still deciding on plans for next year but will take from scouting the work ethic of cheerful service and his enjoyment in one’s craft.
The fundraising breakfast is a tradition that showcases the previous year’s accomplishments by the Scouting movement in the area. Attendees will include area businesses and community leaders as well as those individuals who believe in the difference that Scouting programs make. At this event, Scouting’s traditions and the skills that shape young people into future leaders will be showcased/
Investments from the event will support traditional scouting programs (Packs, Troops, Crews, and Posts), special needs and inner-city scouting initiatives, and the care and maintenance of the Council Service Center/Scout Shop and Camp Stambaugh.
