Meeting last week, Mahoning County Commissioners approved a resolution to enter into a Mahoning County Opiod Settlement Agreement with Boardman Township to provide $464,000 for the development of the Clarence R. Smith Jr. First Responder Wellness Center.
The wellness center will be located on the former site of Mr. Smith’s family homestead on Raupp Ave. The facility will provide a location for first responders to gather for support in handling the traumatic experiences they face on the job.
The development of the concept of a wellness center was begun last December and has been spearheaded by Boardman Trustee Tom Costello, Police Chief Todd Werth and Township Administrator Jason Loree.
Officials are hopeful the facility will open this fall.
