The Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation awarded college scholarships of $10,000 each to 17 area high school seniors during a luncheon banquet held on Mon., May 12 at the Lake Club.
Recipients were selected from among more than 300 students who applied for the stipend.
“The goal is to reward students for their work in the classroom, as well as their work in the community,” Denise DeBartolo York said.
The DeBartolo scholarships were first awarded in 1998 and to date more than $2.2 million has been awarded to recipients.
This year’s recipients are: Maya Banks, Campbell Memorial; Isabella Cornwell, David Anderson, Addison Edwards, McDonald; Cadence Elford, Canfield; Olivia Hardgrove, United; Sara Horn, Liberty; Landon Jones, United; Sadie Jones, Struthers, Hayden John, South Range; Jaylee Laster, Liberty; Giada Pauline, South Range; Jordan Porter, Hubbard; Dominic Ricciardi, Western Reserve; Gianna Rotunno, Hubbard; Lana Tonkinson, Salem; Hunter Warrik, Beaver Local; and Gianna Wilson, Mineral Ridge.
The scholarships honor the memory of shopping mall pioneer Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., of Boardman, who always said that higher education is a stepping stone to future success. |
