With 49-35 Loss To Uniontown Lake:   November 1, 2012 Edition
Boardman and Uniontown Lake concluded the 2012 prep grid season last Friday night as both team combined for more than 800 yards of total offense in the game.
The Blue Streaks ended on the winning side of a 49-35 ledger, scoring 42 points in the second half.
Boardman bowed out with a 4-6 record, while Lake ended at 3-7. Both teams went 2-4 in the Federal League this season.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Boardman busted loose for a 21-point outburst in the second period to claim a 21-7 halftime lead.
The Spartans surge was keyed by Turel Thompson who got Boardman’s first tally of the game on a 66 yard run, then added a second score less than two minutes later on an 87 yard punt return.
The Spartans ended their second quarter spurt when Nate Jones crossed the goal line on an 18-yard run.
Boardman led 35-28 at the end of three quarters of play, as Jones tallied on a 51 yard burst, and Thompson added his third TD of the game on a 9 yard run.
Then the roof caved-in, as the Blue Streaks finished the game with 35 unanswered points, including four, straight TD gallops by Matt Blasiole, who broke Boardman’s back with six touchdowns on the night.
On the game, the Blue Streaks outgained the Spartans, 494-310.
Thompson finished with 221 total yards, including 99 rushing and 35 in pass receptions before he left the game with a concussion. Jones rushed for 87 yards and quarterback John Babos finished with 85 yards rushing.
Blasiole ripped the Spartan defense for 298 yards rushing in the game.
On the defensive side of the ledger, Les McIntosh had a pass interception, while Ryan Savage and Ryan Ebie had fumble recoveries.
