Police Will Use Grant Funding To Hire New Officers
  November 16, 2023 Edition
Meeting on Monday night, Boardman Township Trustees hired a consulting firm, PALO Creative, to assist in the development of a campaign to recruit new patrol officers.
Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth said funding for the campaign will come from a $15,000 grant authored by Lt. John Allsopp.
As a result of recently finalized negotiation with the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #43, beginning salary for a patrol officer with the Boardman Police Department is $50,000. That salary is competitive with other area police departments.
Police Chief Todd Werth told Trustees his department is looking to add at least five officer to his force and he is hopeful civil service exams will be held early in 2024.
Funding for the new officers will come from a $625,000 grant announced last week by U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown.
