For nearly three decades, Caffe Capri has been more than just a restaurant. It has been a home away from home. Generations of families, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable moments have been created within its walls.
Now, the Quaranta family, who have dedicated over 75 years to serving the Mahoning Valley, has made the incredibly difficult decision to close the doors of the beloved restaurant.
The property sale to Cochran auto dealers marks the end of a chapter for Caffe Capri, but as the Quaranta family reflects on this journey, they remain filled with gratitude and pride for what has been built over the years.
“We thought we would be here for generations to come,” said Ron Quaranta Jr. “But after all that we’ve been through, including the challenges brought on by the pandemic, we’ve come to realize that now is the time to say goodbye. It’s a bittersweet moment, but we are so incredibly proud of everything we’ve accomplished and the relationships we’ve built along the way.”
Founded in 1996, Caffe Capri quickly became a local favorite for its authentic Italian cuisine and warm, family-oriented atmosphere.
But the Quaranta family’s restaurant roots run deeper, stretching back to 1939 when Joseph Quaranta opened The Hub Gardens in Youngstown. From there, Ron Sr. and JoAnne continued to build a legacy with places like Ronnie’s Tavern and the Isle of Capri.
The Quaranta family invites guests to visit Caffe Capri through the end of June and to redeem any remaining gift cards.
“Whether you’re a staff member, vendor, or a loyal guest – past or present – you have been part of something special here,” Quaranta Jr. added. “We are beyond grateful for the love and support this community has shown us over the years. Thank you for the memories, for being part of our story, and for becoming part of our family. While we are closing this chapter, it’s not the end—just the beginning of something new. We can’t wait to share what’s next.”
Caffe Capri’s legacy, built on family, community, and exceptional Italian cuisine, will forever remain a cherished part of the Mahoning Valley’s history.
“As we say good-bye, we invite you to celebrate and raise a glass with us until the end of June,” Ron Quaranta says, adding “To everyone who has ever walked through our doors, we say thank you.”
About Caffe Capri
For nearly 30 years, Caffe Capri Italian Bar & Grille has been a staple in the Boardman community.
Founded by the Quaranta family, the restaurant has been beloved for its authentic Italian dishes and family-friendly atmosphere.
Caffe Capri was the culmination of decades of dedication to the local dining scene, continuing a legacy that began with the opening of The Hub Gardens in 1939.
IN THE MID-1990S, THE FATHER-SON TEAM of Ron Quaranta Jr. and his dad, Ron Sr., opened the Isle of Capri in Boardman before acquiring their present site at 8000 Market St. at the beginning of the 21st Century that operated under the name of Caffe Capri. Their business was known as a place where recipes became traditions, laughter was a staple through the dining room and the warmth of a meal made with love could turn strangers into friends. The site has been purchased by a local auto dealership and the Caffe Capri will close its doors at the end of June.
