A longtime Boardman real estate business has been sold to new owners.
John McCarthy, owner of Mayo Realtors, told The Boardman News on Monday the business has been sold to Russell Real Estate Services, of Cleveland, Oh.
McCarthy began his career in the real estate business 47 years ago, all with Mayo Realtors, that was founded 67 years ago as Mayo and Orvets Real Estate, operated by Jack Mayo and Len Orvets.
In addition to the purchase of Mayo Realtors, Russell has recently also purchased Volpini Real Estate, and Mayo and Volpini will continues to operate under the banner of Russell Real Estate Services with offices that will be located on Boardman-Canfield Rd., McCarthy said.
Russell Real Estate is a third generation, family business founded in 1962. It currently has eleven offices in northeast Ohio.
Mayo Realtors, under Len Orvets, Jack Mayo and McCarthy have played a significant role in the residential and commercial development of Boardman Township over the past 50 years.
Among its developments have been Applewood Acres, Tippwood Estates and several plaza developments that total more than a quarter-million square feet.
McCarthy said he is not going to retire, and will remain as a broker with the Russell firm.
