Boardman police are investigating the theft of an estimated $4,550 worth of jewelry that was stolen on Wed., Nov. 19 from Wal-Mart on Doral Dr.
An asset protection associate notified about the theft more than 10 hours after a suspect, identified as Terrell Hinton, entered the business at 5:26 a.m..
The business is not open to the public until 6:00 a.m.
Police were told that Hinton entered the business “by pulling open the front automatic doors.
“He went to the tool section where he selected as crowbar off the self, then walked to the jewelry section where he used the crowbar to pry open a jewelry fixture,” Ptl. Nick Cathcart said.
Police were told the suspect then grabbed 30 “Brilliance Jewelry” products, including a 14-carat crucifix necklace valued at $168 and fled on foot from the store.
Police were not notified of the theft until 3:48 p.m. and were told the suspect left the crowbar at Wal-Mart.
According to Mahoning County Court records, Hinton, 26, of 3332 South Ave, #4, Youngstown, Oh., was charged with felony theft and possession of criminal tools for an incident at a Wal-Mart in Austintown on June 18.
He was given a court-appointed attorney and was found guilty on both charges, fined $300 and a jail sentence was suspended. In lieu of incarceration, Hinton was placed under community control, ordered to stay out of the Austintown Wal-Mart and agreed to pay fine and costs totaling $651 within 90 days.
On Nov. 19, a bench warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to show-up in court for a probation violation hearing that had been set for Oct. 7 in the County Court of Judge Scott Hunter.
