Meeting last week, the Board of Boardman Township Trustees---Larry Moliterno, Steve Yacovone and Matt Gambrel---unanimously approved resolutions to place three, renewal property tax levies on the ballot in May.
Those tax issues are a 7/10-mill general fund issue, a 3-mill current expenses levy, and a 3.85-mill police issue.
The 7/10-mill issue was first approved by the electorate in 1976 and generates some $260,000 a year.
The 3-mill levy was first approved in 1976 and generates about $1.4 million a year.
The 3.85-mill police issue, that was first approved in 2011, provides some $3.5 million a year.
According to the Boardman Fiscal Office, $11.1 million was appropriated in 2025 for the operation of the police department and the 3.5-mill issue brings in some 35 per cent of that amount.
According to the resolution on the police renewal issue, funds from the levy are used “for the purpose of providing and maintaining motor vehicles, communications, other equipment, buildings and sites for such buildings used directly in the operation of the police department, or the payment of salaries of permanent police personnel.”
According to Fiscal Office records, annual appropriations in 2025 for the operation of Boardman Township government were $25.6 million. |
