Meeting on Mon., Feb. 2, the Boardman Board of Education voted unanimously to place a 5.9 mill renewal property tax levy on the May ballot.
The measure lost in the November general elections by seventh-tenths of one percent of all ballots cast, 3671 against the measure and 3570 for the proposal.
The 5.9 mill issue generates some $4.2 million for the local school district.
When placed on the Nov., 2025 ballot, the school board sought a ‘permanent’ levy that if approved would never again be voted upon.
The 5.9-mill issue on this year’s primary ballot would create a revenue stream for five years, then again be placed before the electorate.
The resolution approved by the school board says “the property tax revenue that will be produced by the 5.9 mills, assuming the taxable value of the school district remains constant throughout the life of the levy, is calculated to be $4,266 million. The total taxable value of the school district used in calculating the estimated property tax revenue is $1,245 billion. The millage for the requested levy is 5.9 mills per $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $101 for each $100,000 of the County Auditor’s market value.” |
