Aqua Ohio announces plans to renovate one of its 2 million-gallon water storage tanks located in the 2000 block of Woodward Ave. in Boardman. The $600,000 project is scheduled to begin June 1 and will involve draining, sandblasting, minor repairs and repainting both the interior and exterior of the tank.
“It’s important that we regularly maintain and repaint our water storage tanks to stay ahead of corrosion and maximize their service life,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Jennifer Johnson.
“This tank is critical to our system. Not only does it provide storage for two-million gallons of treated water, but it helps regulate pressure levels in Boardman and Poland townships and the
City of Struthers.
Crews from L and T Painting of Shelby Township, Mich. will start by draining the tank and striping old coatings and corrosion. They will then make any needed repairs before applying paint to both the interior and exterior of the tank.
The work, which is expected to be complete by August 1, will take place between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday through Saturday with occasional work on Sundays when required. Plans have been made to avoid noisy activities during early morning hours.
Though occasional water pressure variations are possible during the project, customers should not experience service interruptions, and the water quality will continue to meet all federal and state regulations.
Johnson said that the $600,000 project is part of the $12.6 million that Aqua will invest locally in the Mahoning Valley and $64.8 million across the company’s 45 Ohio systems in 2026.
Aqua Ohio is the states largest investor-owned drinking water and wastewater utility and serves about 500,000 residents in 21 counties. |
