Meeting on Mon., July 27 the Boardman Board of Education approved $501,400 for repairs to the electrical and boiler systems at Center Intermediate School due to water damage from storms that hit throughout Boardman Township on July 5.
“This situation presents an urgent necessity and a basis for waiving competitive bidding,” resolutions on the matter said in the board’s July agenda, adding repairs are needed in order to provide electrical power and heat to the school before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
“The project needs to start as soon as possible,” the resolutions said.
Repairs to boiler units include a water boiler, pumps, control panels and compressors.
Electrical work was awarded to MG Electric at a cost not to exceed $209,400.
Prout Boiler was awarded a contract not to exceed $292,000 for repairs at Center’s boiler room.
Damage at Center Intermediate School also included a metal light pole that crashed down at the stadium at Center; as well as extensive tree damage at Glenwood Jr. High School that brought large trees down on the cross country course that is scheduled to host one of the largest meets in the state in September, the Spartan Invitational. |
